3.5 Cluster of Economic Controversy

What I did in my cluster:

In my cluster I branched off from the Economic Controversy and showed are the different classes an of people and constituents are effected by the economy in some way and the way the leaders express their voice and what channel of means of communication they use. An example, our local state government of Arizona is lead by Governor Doug Ducey and he will give a State of the State address to discuss how our state government is doing and what can be done to make changes. Each group has their own opinions and ideas on how to make things better with change which might be for the better or can be worse.

Reflection

In Stephanie Vincent's and Steven Duron posts I saw similarities to mine and Stephanie's cluster and how we formatted our graphs. Steven  had a powerful cluster that flowed and reached out in swirled directions with branched out information. All of us have different types of styles that I found rather interesting in how we view information.

3.7 QRGs: The Genre

1. What do the conventions of this genre- the Quick Reference Guide - seem to be? They are the rules being followed as to how the document is being designed and formatted.
2. 
    How are those conventions defined by the author's formatting and design choices? The QRGs are following the "Principles of Document Design (Rules for Writers Chapter 50, pages 402-409) in their styles of writing.

   What does the purpose of these QRGs seem to be? The QRGs are used as guides for different audience readers. They allow the audience readers to have a flow of the document as they follow the reading.

   Who is the intended audience for these different QRGs?Are they intended for similar audiences? Or different? How and why?Each different heading in the QRGs use ing phrases, noun pharses and questions for each different audience and each QRGs uses consistency in each of their formatting. These heading are providing an overview as a summary before the audience reader begins or does not read through the document.

   How do the QRGs use imagery or visuals? Why do you think they use them in this way? The QRGs images and visual to convey messages and they support the points being made. Each image or visual is credited and labeled and placed next to the area of the particular writing it applies to.

Reflection

I posted comments to Oscar Acosta and Michael Dominquez I learned from my classmates that the visuals and images grab the attention of the reader and how they will react when reading the topic. Also, the QRG's give a brief explanation of the topic and sometimes the Q & A's give a better format.

Whats kinds of sources does it cite? The article sited several bibliographies.
Who is the author? The author is Kristen S. Seefeldt, Assistant Professor, School of Social Work at the University of Michigan.
Who is its intended audience? The intended audience is for social workers and gives information on  the skills that are necessary to assist families that are in economic crisis.
How did I find it? I located this article on the Academic Database JSTOR.

What s its purpose? The article states how the economy can effect personal health in a negative and believe it or not have a positive way which I found highly interesting in how a negative thing can help a person preserver.
How and where is it published? The article was published in the Annual Review of Sociology
Whats kinds of sources does it site? This article sites Review in Advance, April 29, 2015.
Who is the author? The authors are Sara Bargard, Associate Professor of Sociology and Lucie Kalousva, Doctoral Candidate, Department of Sociology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Who is the intended audience? This article focuses towards people in the sociology field and how best to work with people that are looking for  help with their personal state of mind.
How did I find it? I located the article in Google Scholar.

2.13 Ideology in My Controversy

• Who is involved…Economy and industry in the US consists of our government, tax payers, legislative leaders, low income populations, and culturally diverse society populations.

• Who are some of the major speakers/writers…The first major speakers that comes to mind is our President Barack Obama who leads our nation as a whole and then flows down to our legislative leaders as well as the press and various writers that begin to analyze and form facts and opinions of our economy and industry.

• What kind of social/cultural/economic/political power…Economic and political power are held within the groups as whom is involved. Bills, laws and our government deficit are focuses of our economy and industry within the US.

• What does each group value? Each group will value their ideology of their right to freedom of speech when they represent their beliefs and stands on various trends and cycles when our nation faces challenges in our economy such as the increased of the minimum wage throughout the country

• Is there a power differential…There is a power differential between our state and federal government and how we manage our deficit and the different programs that are managed as in healthcare as an example of Obama Care and the right for each individual to not go without medical care.

• Is there any acknowledged common…Yes all groups are looking for the best interests of our economy by working to improve our society by our government leaders working for our best interests. President Obama is key to making things happen.

• Is there any unacknowledged…The unacknowledged would be populations that resist improvements possibly the upper class might fit into this group. The rich gettng richer .

• Do the various groups listen...Yes various groups listens to one another and work towards a common goal of what are the best interests of our economic groups it then falls on what can be done to make things happen and over come any challenges and road block along the way to take the stand in the best interest oh our diverse populations.

First Source-Top 10 Controversies About The US

• Credibility - Can you corroborate who the person who posted the social media message is. Can you Google them? Do they belong to an organization or institution that bestows credibility on them (for example, a university, governmental organization, non-profit, company, etc.)?I tried to Google the writer and to no avail did not find him to be credible in my opinion. This site Listverve solicits lists sent to them by readers and pays them $100. .

• Location - Are they in the place they are tweeting or posting about? Are they directly involved with any of the events relevant to your controversy? I believe they are based in the United Kingdom from what I observe from the site.

• Network - Who is in their network and who follows them? Do other individuals with institutional credibility associate with this person on social media? The BBC Radio, Radio Scotland, Alabama Radio, BBC Television World News International, PBS, Gizmodo, and the New York Time are where Listverse articles are featured as well as on the cover. pages of popular social networking sites.

• Content - Can the information they’re relying on in their tweet or post be corroborated from other sources? I am somewhat skeptical about this site and do not believe in its reliability.

• Contextual updates - Do they usually post or tweet on this topic? If so, what did past or updated posts say? Do they fill in more details?They typical post three list serves day.

• Age - What is the age of the account in question? Be wary of recently created accounts. From what I have read the ages range would be mid 30's. Their site states that they also post about trivia.

• Reliability - Is the source of information reliable? I do not believe in the reliability of the source because of the credibility.

2nd Source- Jobs and the Economy

• Credibility - Can you corroborate who the person who posted the social media message is. Can you Google them? Do they belong to an organization or institution that bestows credibility on them (for example, a university, governmental organization, non-profit, company, etc.)? San Diego Union Tribune where the article was posted is reliable source where the articles is posted but the writers whom are the co-founders of Luxuria Relations this business site which I googled was not in service. Only last names of the two co-founders where posted.

• Location - Are they in the place they are tweeting or posting about? Are they directly involved with any of the events relevant to your controversy? Not sure their article is posted in the San Diego Union Tribune.

• Network - Who is in their network and who follows them? Do other individuals with institutional credibility associate with this person on social media? Their typical followers could be subscribers of the San Diego Union Tribune.

• Content - Can the information they’re relying on in their tweet or post be corroborated from other sources?

• Contextual updates - Do they usually post or tweet on this topic? If so, what did past or updated posts say? Do they fill in more details?

• Age - What is the age of the account in question? Be wary of recently created accounts. The San Diego Union Tribune is a well known publication and the age of the writers are questionable due to only their last names are credited.

•  Reliability - Is the source of information reliable? The writers are the cofounders of Luxuria Relations. Website is not functioning when I googled.

2.6 Evaluation of General Sources

The 2015 controversies I found in the Economy and Industry field are Top 10 Legislative Issues to Watch for in 2015 and the Census Bureau Economic Statistics these two search sites focused on the types impacts our economy has and is facing in 2015. Both of these sites provided valuable information and facts in my discipline field.

2.3 My Discipline

1. What do students in your program learn how to do? The student in my field of study in the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences where I am majoring in Economy and Industry
2. What do people who get degrees in this field usually go on to do for work? People in this field go on to work in administration and management positions. I currently hold a professional career position and I wanted to enhance myself professionally with a bachelors degree to be able to climb the ladder within my department.
3. What drew you to this field? I have gone to college on and off for a few years and I wanted a degree which would make me a well rounded student with a diverse curriculum within my degree and with talking to my college advisor I found this degree being able to support my education and career.
4. Who are the leaders/most exciting involved in your field right now? Why? These could be individuals people or specific companies, organizations, businesses or non-profits. I feel that Dean Joaquin Ruiz the dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences is the most exciting leader within my college with his innovative science research that he supports and brings to the University of Arizona.
