1.9 Calendar Reflection

Plans to completing coursework this semester:
  1. I plan to devote nine to ten hours of homework time to be success in this course.
  2. In planning to commit my homework time I have averaged a total of 1.5 hours a day to meet these requirements.
  3. In my current occupation I work 40 plus hours a week in a fast-paced work environment I have adjusted my lunch hour to allow to at least 30 minutes of reading and studying time during the workweek.  I understand there are times that I will not be able to make this commitment due to a pressing task but will do my best.
  4. Communication is key in this class and I know I have to be disciplined and focused to stay on pace with my classmates and the syllabus.
  5. I understand that there are personal activities that I will have to plan around and will plan ahead to study and work on coursework on the weekends.
Reflection of what I learned:
In reading Liz Kinney and Stephanie Vicenti blogs I learned that we all have something in common  all three of us having very busy schedules and commitments along with school and we all find ways to juggle our lives on a daily basis in being disciplined and keeping motivated with our coursework. Online coursework in my experience is more challenging and trying to stay abreast and afloat with organization and planning with hectic schedules.

1.8 My Writing Process

  1. What type(s) of writer do you consider yourself to be? In my career I work in a fast-paced work environment that is deadline driven I find myself falling into the category of  being a Sequential Composer.
  2. Does your writing process include several of the above approaches?  If so, which one? At times I can be a bit of a Procrastinator with the tendency to justify that I can work well under pressure and stress to complete the task at hand.
  3. Does your writing process seem to be successful? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your approach? As a Sequential Composer I feel this is a strength that I possess by writing notes and creating an outline I look at the big picture and start to plan the draft.
  4. Do you think it might be beneficial to try a different approach? Why or why not? I believe by looking at the Heavy Planner and Heavy Reviser strategies and incorporating some of these styles into my writing it can enhance my finished product. As a Heavy Planner using more of a careful thought process of really thinking about and focusing on my writing and then as a Heavy Reviser writing out those thoughts and eliminating any writing that is not a contributing factor to the draft leading to the final product. https://www.flickr.com/photos/79656086@N03/7655269802/
Reflection
I learned from my fellow classmates that they are both heavy revisers and this is where I would like be in adding this skill to my own writing. In having a more creative writing style I do believe this would allow my writing to flow more. I am a bit of a planner and organizer and these tendencies are implemented into my professional and personal life. I found their posts very informative.
